Another city you definitely don’t want to miss out on in Dubrovnik. You may recognize the city as “Kings Landing” from the series “Game of Thrones”. The latest discoveries show that the first settlement has been 300 BC when it was still called “Ragusa”.

In the region of Dalmatia, you will also find unique landscapes and islands, that are popular for sailors and scuba divers. The region is the allrounder since it offers loads of activities. From trekking, diving, sailing to the beach holiday with huge parties or a relaxing vacation with the family – you can find it all in Dalmatia.

Official information on the number of islands is not known. It varies between 1185 and 1244, from which only 5% are inhabited. Some of them are incredibly small, like the island Ist, which is less than 10km2. Only 180 people are living on the island, but there are some more interesting islands.

Galešnjak is the island of lovers. It is in the shape of a heart, and this was only discovered in 2004 through Google Earth. The island is privately owned and is only 500 m wide. It has 2 small moorings and a pebble beach. The owners are looking forward to providing wedding ceremonies on the island.

Where there is love there has to be lucky as well. The island of the lucky is called Rab. It is one of the most marvelous islands in the Adriatic Sea with several small towns and amazing beaches. You can reach the island only by ferry.

One of the bigger islands is Lošinj, the island of the scent. With a population of 7.000 people, it is located in the north of the country and provides 300 days of sunshine each year. Thousands of different plants are blooming here each year and turn the island into a natural wonderland in spring and summer. Around the island, you can find loads of coral, mussels, and fish, which make the island a perfect destination for scuba diving and snorkeling.
