Kenia – cradle of mankind and modern-day Africa

Kenia is pure Africa – nothing symbolizes the continent and its diversity more than this country. Safari trips through the wild countryside on one hand, vibrant cities and marvelous beaches on the other.

The country is located in East Africa, right at the Indian Ocean in the middle of the vast continent. The country itself is divided into 4 regions with their own climate. The coast region on the east is hot and moist and reaches from Lamu in the north until Shimoni in the south.

Lamu is the main city in the Lamu Archipelago, which is located right before the coast in the northeast of Kenia. This town and the whole archipelago are something completely different than the rest of the country since there are no cars on the island. You get around by boat or by donkey, which makes it a unique destination for every traveler.

The north of the country is well known for Lake Turkana. The huge lake is located in the northwest of the country and adjoins the Sibiloi National Park. Until today several remains of prehistoric men have been found and it is home to an ecosystem that is rich in species. Therefore, it has been declared a world heritage area by UNESCO in 1997. Many people have named the region around Lake Turkana the cradle of mankind, but it is also home to Giraffes, Impalas, and Zebras.

The west of Kenia is very hot and dry. In the north of the region is Mount Elgon, a volcanic giant with a labyrinth of caves and valleys. You can visit the National Park and stroll through the forest to see the elephant caves. The whole region consists of grasslands, swamps, and mountain rainforests. In the south of this region, you will find Lake Victoria, which is the biggest lake in Africa. If you are going on a tour in the region around the lake, you can find the last roan antelopes, Ugandan giraffes, reedbucks, white rams, ostriches, chimpanzees, cheetahs, and leopards.

The south of Kenia is moist, hot, and very fruitful. The vast majority of the population is living in this region and Nairobi is the center on the eastern part of the rift. Nairobi, the capital of Kenia, is the starting point for many safari tours throughout the country and is the economic center of Kenia. With its 5.5 million inhabitants it is the largest city in the country.

Maybe one of the most famous National Parks is the Masai Mara Park in the Serengeti. This Reservoir in the southwest is home to a lot of animals, as well as the Massai. This nomad population is still roaming through the region, living as their ancestors did apart from modern-day society.

If you want to experience Africa, you need to go to Kenia. You can see the wonderful countryside with its wild animals and see a complete journey of mankind – from the cradle at Lake Turkana over the Massai nomads in the Serengeti up to the modern city of Nairobi.
